In this relaxing yet skill-building workshop, adults and seniors will craft a handmade slide-top jewelry box under the guidance of master craftsman Doug Hill (40+ years’ experience). Perfect for beginners or those refreshing their skills, this class focuses on precision, patience, and the satisfaction of hand-tool woodworking. All Skill Levels welcome.

Key Skills Taught:
✔ Box construction with fitted joints
✔ Precision measuring and cutting for smooth sliding tops
✔ Sanding and finishing techniques for a professional look
✔ Assembly theory for sturdy, lasting results

Project: Build a custom slide-top jewelry box (finished dimensions: approx. 8"x6"x4") to take home after Day 3.

Workshop Details

Format:

  • 3 required sessions (1.5 hours each - dates and times TBD)

  • 4.5 hours total instruction (Attend all dates to complete your project)

  • Small group: Limited to 6 students for personalized attention

Policies

Cancellation by Participant:

  • 50% refund if canceled 1 week before class starts

  • No refunds within 7 days of the first class

  • No exceptions for missed sessions

Cancellation by Instructor:

  • Full refund if minimum enrollment isn’t met

Meet Your Instructor: Doug Hill

A master craftsman with over 40 years of woodworking experience, Doug Hill comes from three generations of carpenters and has dedicated his life to working with wood—first as a contractor, now as the founder of Grayhill Woodworking, where he creates handcrafted pieces from reclaimed materials.

For the past 8 years, Doug has also shared his passion as a full-time Woodworking and Applied Engineering teacher at Flex School in Berkeley Heights, NJ, guiding students ages 8–18 in hands-on craftsmanship. A local NJ native, he’s background-checked, fingerprinted, and committed to fostering creativity in a safe, supportive environment.
